Wedding Tuam Cathedral and Raheen Woods Hotel Athenry

07th May 2013

I was lucky enough to be working with Marlene & Robert for their special day in early April.
Robert was a best man for a wedding that I worked on a couple of years ago, and that day is vivid in my memory as a result of the most entertaining wedding speeches that I've witnessed. Robert was best man for his good buddy Seán's wedding and the tables were to be turned on Rob's big day!
Marlene' & Robert's wedding was taking place at 12.30am....I like early weddings as it means there's less pressure on the Bride & Groom to be hurrying here and there in order to get photos taken.....they can absorb their wedding day at a much more leisurely pace then they can for example with a 2pm wedding.
Marlene's preparations took place in her parents beautiful spacious home and that's where I met all Marlene's sisters who were also Bridesmaids and flower girls, thanks Niamh, Tracey, Julie and of course the brilliant Ella!
Marlene was in the competent hands of Sandra Gillen for her make up . John Murphy of Avalon Video joined me in Marlene's home for the preparations, it's always a pleasure working with John, we've worked on a good few weddings together and understand what each others requirements are on wedding days which helps matters run smoothly.

The beautiful Ella studies her big sisters dress.

On the couple of occasions that I met Marlene & Robert prior to their wedding, Marlene and mentioned that they were just going to take everything in their stride and enjoy whatever the day threw at them.....and she most certainly did. A joy to be around, relaxed, accommodating with regards to photos and enjoying her wedding day to the last is how I'd sum up the beautiful Marlene.

It was good to meet up with the mad groomsmen Sean, Brian and David back at the church. As I mentioned I covered the photography at Seán's wedding a couple of years ago and it's always good to be working with people that your familiar with (as well as being up for a bit of craic!!).

The magnificent Tuam Cathedral, a majestic building that's top drawer material for photographers. Nicola McGuire provided the enchanting church music accompanied by Paul Feery. I've worked with Nicola on numerous occasions in the past and she's the consummate professional in her work. Indeed, her version of You'll Never Walk Alone is something that touched Robert as he mentioned in his wedding speech later.

It's easy to see how relaxed Marlene & Robert are on their wedding day!

The beautiful five sisters!

I always enjoy working in the Raheen Woods Hotel. I must commend Francis (Manageress)in particular for the accommodating manner that she always exhibits while I'm working there.....she makes matters so easy for the couples on their big day.

The speeches were something that I was looking forward to ever since I was booked for the wedding! Seán gave Robert some payback (areoplane and Rosary beads story) during the speeches, but what was a pleasure to witness was some of the affectionate stories that family and friends shared of them both. Indeed, it was refreshing to see young men talk affectionately of their good friend and his new wife in such an honest and touching manner.

First dance as husband and wife.

An unusual photo to have of a bride in her dancing costume at her own wedding....... a performance that was well worth hanging around for!

And finally, the one and only Ella, a brilliant little girl who was top drawer material on the day of her sisters wedding!

Marlene & Robert, I really enjoyed working with you both and throughly enjoyed your company. Your a smashing couple with great awareness and I wish you both the very best of luck together!
