Wedding Carraroe Co Galway and Westwood Hotel Reception

09th October 2014

Lorraine & Ken's wedding was celebrated in Carraroe Co Galway followed by a reception in the Westwood Hotel Galway City.
The weather in Carraroe was contrasting to what it was like in Galway on the wedding morning. Rain and dark clouds were replaced with sunshine and bright weather the further west I traveled...indeed I was a happy camper arriving at Lorraine's home...lovely sunshine!
I love listening to people chatting in our native tongue...and in particular I think the Carraroe Irish is as authentic as you'll get. It was lovely catching snippets of conversation from Lorraine's home while they were getting ready for the ceremony, and indeed I'm grateful to her parents Mairéad and Liam for their welcome...and indeed for Liam regularly checking on me to see if I was fed and watered...go raibh maith agat Liam!
Lorraines home is only a short distance to the church and it was good to bump into our local priest Fr ray who was celebrating the ceremony. Carraroe Church is beautiful and Lorraine had a lot of attention to detail which made it look splendid on her wedding day.
Ken and his groomsmen Andrew and Ronan were pretty relaxed about matters when I arrived at the church and we ran off a handful of shots before Lorraine showed up promptly!
After the ceremony (and after gulping down a goody bag of sweets that all guests received), we made a journey to Coral Beach which was pretty close to the church and an absolutely glorious spot! Unfortunately, when we hopped out of our cars there, the wind was so strong that it impossible for photos......a change of plan meant that we were going to use Bearna Woods en route to the Hotel. The woods can be a great place on a windy day....plenty of protection and some lovely colors on display.....factor in some lovely dappled light spilling through the trees and it's heaven!
Back to the great crew in the Westwood Hotel afterwards for a brilliant reception!
Once again, Lorraine's attention to details for the finer things were excellent and there were a lot of unusual nic/nacs to be photographed there.

Thanks Lorraine and Ken for being two great people to work with. Your day was relaxed and good fun and I'm grateful for playing a small part in it. Please God we'll cross paths again in the future!

I think we sometimes underestimate how daunting it can be for young flowergirls and pageboys to walk up an aisle....a lot of strangers hiding behind phones/cameras and the widescreen tv's also known as Ipads!! I love the way Emma, Ciara, Niamh and Declan almost lean in towards each some extra support!
