Marian & John's wedding in the Galway Cathedral with a reception in the Salthill Hotel

12th June 2018
I've been exceptionally lucky this year with the weddings I've covered. Couples that have great awareness/mindfulness in their lives and being ion a good place on their wedding day.
I believe that a wedding day can be a microscopic reflection of a person's life...if your happy with who you are as a person in life, that persona is what shines under the life event of a wedding day......and judging on that, Marian and John (as well as there families) are two good people!
I remember meeting Marian and John at a wedding fair where the conversation flowed and we seemed to hit it off pretty well.....I was happy out when they booked me shortly after that noting how we had gotten on pretty well.
Thankfully they were no different on wedding day! Arriving in Marian's home, I was warmly greeted by Marian's parents Esther and Peter as well as her sisters and bridesmaids Helen and Anita along with Maeve and Deirdre. Marian's home reminded me of my grandmother's home in Shantalla which wouldn't have been a million miles from them.....the "old Galway" accent being very evident.
Another thing that was pretty evident was how chivalrous John was on wedding day.....in particular with the gifts he had sent to Marian on wedding morning......shtop, he'd put a lot of us to shame! I keep telling my wife that we lived in different times!
Aisling K Make Up was responsible for having all the ladies look wonderful on wedding morning...and in a punctual manner too...always good to cross paths Aisling!
Marian lives so close to the Cathedral that she could have walked there on wedding morning....but elected to travel in style in the most jaw dropping of BMW's!
The Galway Cathedral is a magnificent building.....I'm always in awe of the architecture when shooting there. Ironically I had shot another wedding there the previous day but luckily the weather was better on this day and it allowed us to get some nice outdoor photos after the ceremony. Frank Naughton was looking after the music side of things and ably accompanied by the Cathedral resident organist Ray...truly sounded awesome!
We used the Quad in NUIG (which Marian's family are no stranger's to) for the bridal shoot as well as the gardens immediately outside the Salthill Hotel.
Fair play to John....he's a softly spoken man that farms for a living...and not too interested in photography. On wedding day however, he totally respected the job I was getting paid to do and I appreciate his efforts....which were totally outside his comfort zone... when it came to the photography side of things, your a good man John!
Thanks so much for trusting me with the photography side of things lads.....we had a great day and please God we'll cross paths in the not too distant future again.......until then, mind yourselves!
