Castlecourt Hotel Westport Mayo

12th July 2016
Siobhán and Barry were exceptionally lucky to have their wedding day amidst the heatwave that we experienced in early June...makes such a difference to a wedding day and helps give a part atmosphere to your guests!

Although I live just outside Headford, I had never been into Inishmacatreer previously and decided to take a spin there on my bike a couple of days prior to the wedding....good to get the lie of the land, find out where Siobhán lived and then do some homework on where we’d be taking some photos. The day I cycled back there was heaven and indeed Siobhán’s home was like something from a fairy tale....it’s setting is simply majestic. I was delighted therefore when I pulled back the curtains on wedding morning to see the same weather that we had been experiencing all week.

Siobhán Costello was looking after Siobhán’s hair when I arrived and she’s always good for a few giggles on wedding morning....keeps everything light hearted and does a damn good job too!
Thanks to Siobhán’s mum Maura along with her two sisters who were also the bridesmaids Michelle and Laura....everything ran very smoothly on wedding morning and that was largely down to Siobhán’s attention to detail. We met up a few days prior to the wedding and I gave her a few tips regarding timings and I was delighted to see that she had paid attention to same....well done Mrs, it helped us all a lot!
Louise from Séamus Florist Sundries was on Flower Duty on wedding day and did a superb job....all in all everything was going smoothly for us. The cream on the cake on wedding morning was the roaring arrival of the beautiful wedding car...a Maserati driven by Pat Feeney of Wedding car’s Ireland. Pat’s a team player, a great gut to have on your side on a wedding day and a person who’s company I always enjoy. Indeed i remember doing one wedding last year in the Claddagh when Pat was working for another wedding party but was polite enough to come over to me and offer some help moving my equipment....that’s why he’s such a nice guy!
Things went even better when I arrived at the church....my good buddy and neighbour, John Murphy of Avalon Video was responsible for the Video side of things and together we grabbed some footage of Barry with his two groomsman Brian and Martin....ironically Brian being John Murphy’s son!
Fr John Hughes was the celebrant and the superb music was by the excellent Seán Costello. After the ceremony, we used outside the church for the family portraits before heading back to the lovely Inishmacatreer from some Bridal Portraits.
To say that our time back there was relaxing would be a massive understatement. Indeed I started off by taking some images of the ladies which gave the lads the opportunity to have a cool beer while sitting in one of the boats at the pier before they pulled a rugby ball out from one of the cars and had a throw around with that....cool stuff.
The lake was as still as you’ll ever see any lake...not a puff of wind in sight and it lent itself to providing a stunning backdrop for some images. John Murphy got some beautiful drone footage while we were back there and the relaxed theme was maintained when Martin took out some golf clubs and started belting a few balls into the lake while I was taking images of Barry and Siobhan...great stuff altogether.
Our final port of call was the excellent Castlecourt Hotel in Westport....a place I love working in, not least of all because I find the wedding co-ordinator one of the nicest that you'll come across...another good team player! Siobhan and Barry’s arrival there was cool....everyone having their drinks outside in the courtyard and it’s lovely when all of your guests are there to cheer your arrival. Pyramid as always ensured a full dance floor...lively band with great musicians and late in the night, the legend that is Ronan Lardner ensured he dragged everyone screaming and kicking into the early hours of the following morning.
Thank you Siobhán and Barry for trusting me with your wedding photography....it was an extremely enjoyable day, you were surrounded by a good team and please God we’ll cross paths again shortly....in the meantime, mind yourselves!
